What is Reiki and how can it help you?

Are you looking for that missing part of your life, that elusive thing that you know deep down you have not yet found? Reiki shines a beautiful light on your path gently allowing you to find it. Reiki (pronounced 'Ray-key') is a Japanese word which means "Universal Life Force Energy".It has been known since ancient times that an unseen energy flows through all living things and that this energy directly affects our quality of health and general well-being. Reiki is the name given to this system of natural healing which was re-discovered by the Japanese theologist, Dr. Mikao Usui, towards the end of the 19th century.A Reiki treatment is a gentle non-intrusive healing process whereby healing energy (Reiki) is channelled through the therapist's hands to the recipient. The therapist places their hands either on, or slightly above, the body. The energy comes directly from the universe (not the therapist) and the recipient's Being will draw as much Reiki as is required at that moment. Reiki treats the whole person - body, mind, emotions and spirit and creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. You may experience sensations of heat, coolness, tingling, feel floaty or heavy, see colours or have dream-like experiences.During your treatment you remain fully clothed and will be made comfortable on a treatment couch with pillows and a blanket if you wish. Gentle background music and subtle aromas will ensure a deeply relaxing experience.Reiki promotes healing by:

Energising the system Reiki is a holistic therapy that assists in the treatment of any disease whether physical, mental or emotional. Reiki supports the body's natural ability to heal itself and may be used in conjunction with standard medical procedures.For the healthy, Reiki promotes vitality, peace of mind and a profound sense of well being. Reiki is therefore a wonderful gentle therapy for the expectant mother and baby.As Reiki tailors itself to the needs of the recipient on the day, the way a treatment is perceived varies considerably - both from person to person and from treatment to treatment. Here are some typical comments:

The Reiki Principles:

Just for today, I will let go of anger
Just for today, I will let go of worry
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing

You will notice that all the above statements are preceded by the phrase 'Just for today'. This phrase is very important - if we become bogged down by the perceived enormity of our problems and difficulties and see these projecting into the days, weeks or even years ahead, we feel overwhelmed and powerless. However by taking things a step at a time and focussing on the immediate moment (i.e. thinking more in terms of 'just for today') we regain control and feel far more empowered.

DO YOU WISH TO LEARN HOW TO CHANNEL REIKI YOURSELF?

Anyone can learn how to channel Reiki - you do not require any previous experience or training and your spiritual beliefs are immaterial.There are four distinct stages along the Usui Reiki path: Reiki 1, Reiki 2 (minimum Practitioner Level), Reiki 3 (Master Practitioner) and Reiki Master Teacher.Some Reiki Masters offer Reiki 1 and 2 over consecutive days, but I prefer to allow a period of time between Level 1 and Level 2. A Reiki attunement is a sacred life-changing event and I feel it is better to allow the Being time to fully integrate the affects of Reiki 1 before moving on to Reiki 2 - you will know when the time is right for you to progress to Reiki 2.

USUI REIKI LEVEL 1, is primarily about self healing, but you would also learn how to channel this wonderful healing energy for the benefit of friends and loved ones, pets, plants etc.Some people ask how it is possible to learn Reiki in such a short time. The answer is that “you don’t”! During the workshop you will be attuned/initiated into the Reiki energy and it is this tuning of your energy system that allows the power of the universe to flow through you. This process is like the planting of a seed. In the ensuing days, weeks and months the universal energy works with you to cleanse and clear your system allowing you to achieve a deeper link to the universe and to yourself. You will also learn how to tap into the Universal Life Force Energy, thus enabling you to bring its healing power into your life and into the lives of those around you. This powerful and ancient healing system is one of the fastest growing systems in the country today. Reiki can be used by everyone, with or without religious or spiritual beliefs. Reiki compliments, and is compatible with, all other forms of therapy.

USUI REIKI LEVEL 2, is the next step on the Reiki journey and enhances the flow of Reiki energy through your Being. This workshop equips you to bring Reiki healing into the lives of others and enables you to become a Reiki practitioner, if that is your chosen path. You will be attuned to three powerful symbols and shown how to incorporate these into your practice of Reiki, for example how to transmit healing through time and space. A detailed manual and certificate will be provided.

USUI REIKI LEVEL 3, is for personal growth, transformation, and increased enlightenment. It is available to those students who have been continuously working with Second Degree Reiki for a minimum of 3 months. You will learn the Master symbol and one attunement, which opens the recipient to receive greater amounts of Reiki energy and to help you access more energy when giving hands-on or absentee treatments. You will also learn how to make an Energy Grid, which brings more light and love to the planet, and sends continuous Reiki treatments, as well as a procedure to remove particularly difficult energy blocks. Each Reiki class is hands-on with lots of practice!

TEACHER LEVEL is for those students who wish to teach Reiki. It is necessary that a minimum of six months of continuous use of Reiki and a prerequisite of Third Degree for Personal Mastery be completed before applying for the Teacher level. This level requires a deep commitment to the integrity of the system and the integration of Reiki as a lifestyle. It gives you the complete science for activating First, Second, Third and Teacher degrees (including complete teaching notes for each degree). It contains advanced techniques in energy activation or attunements, balance, direction, and modulation for healing, transformation, integration, and inner-illumination. It is not just a step up in energy, it is a way of being. The Teacher level is available only upon request and an interview.Why would a Reiki Master choose to teach more than three levels? The answer is that there is so much wonderful information to pass on to the Reiki student. Rather than having the student read all the material and teach the complete system in about a day or two, some teachers have chosen to add additional levels to the teaching. Specific lengths of time between classes are usually required to allow the energy to incorporate within the person, adjust to energy shifts, and to give the student a certain amount of time to practice what he/she has learned. Since the publication of the 'Original Handbook of Usui', the amount of information required to learn Reiki has far surpassed the information that was available in earlier classes taught before this publication, so much so that it has become necessary to teach these levels and require the student to assimilate all this information in practice sessions.
Every practitioner has a Reiki Master lineage that can be traced back to "The Three Masters" of Reiki:

Dr. Mikao Usui

The first Grand Master who rediscovered Reiki toward the end of the 19th Century, and is responsible for its revival.

Dr. Chujiro Hayashi

Followed the teachings of Dr. Usui and opened a clinic in Tokyo.

Hawayo Takata

Came to Dr. Hayashi's clinic in 1935 and was eventually named by him as his successor. Takata is responsible for continuing the traditions of Reiki.
